Can You Control Withdrawal Symptoms?
Apr 15, 2026If you are someone who’s working through an antidepressant and/or benzodiazepine withdrawal situation then you’re probably familiar with the feeling of a symptom “wave” beginning to come upon you. Sometimes this torrent of symptoms can last an hour, sometimes a day, sometimes a week or longer, but when it does hit we often wonder the following:
“Did I do something to bring this on myself?”
“Can I fight back against these symptoms so they just go away?”
“How long will these last, and what can I do to cope?”
As someone who took the SSRI Paxil and the benzo medication Xanax for many years and then quit them both, I am familiar with the above questions. In this video, I will talk about how to approach both symptom waves and the healing process at large, and also about the important distinction between trying to “control” the healing process and aiming to “influence” it.
