Celebrating 13-Years Off SSRI Meds (Paxil) With Healing Tips for You!
Dec 15, 2025Thirteen years ago I stopped taking the SSRI antidepressant Paxil after being prescribed it for anxiety and panic during my senior year of college. Like many people, I was also prescribed Xanax and remained on these medications for over a decade before realizing that my health and wellness needed to move in a different direction.
While I was hopeful about becoming medication-free, I was unprepared for the severe antidepressant withdrawal that followed. Paxil withdrawal symptoms hit hard and without warning. I experienced intense anxiety, deep dread and depression, insomnia, and significant physical symptoms.
At times it felt impossible to imagine surviving even a few weeks—let alone months or years. But here I am today, 13 years off Paxil, healthier, happier, and more balanced.
