Good Things Happen With Time

Oct 20, 2026

There is a certain level of patience required in healing. It isn’t always easy to find or practice patience when we are in pain or afraid, but it is helpful. Because with time, rest, and greater measures of self-care come measures of healing.

Time: it is both foe and friend in the healing process. It moves oh so slowly when we are hurting, but it is always on our side because it is the carrier of our improvements. A while back I released a YouTube video entitled The Healing Equation, and in that video I outlined what I believe to be The Basic Formula for healing:

“Healing = Time + Self-Care + Self-Work”

I love that formula, because it acknowledges that there is an active component to healing & personal progress (i.e., we must care for ourselves and be willing to work at things), but it also reiterates the NECESSITY of time. No matter how hard we work at things, we must be patient as well. Results take time to bloom.

This week we are going to focus specifically on patience. Recently I released a YouTube video on the topic, and also I’ve found some great quotes on patience I’ll be discussing in upcoming posts. I hope you find them useful.

“Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind.” David G Allen

When we make plans for the future—when we think about how we wish things would go in our future—we usually have a fairly specific picture of EXACTLY how we want things to look.

When we pray to God, we often have a fairly exact answer for which we are hoping. But God’s answers might not always look exactly like what we requested. Nevertheless, an answered prayer is a beautiful thing.

And progress is also a beautiful thing, even if it doesn’t happen in the exact order in which we’d imagined it would.

Isn’t this the definition of non-linear healing? There are ups and downs, a strange non-sensical order to things at times. It’s easy to get discouraged because our days and weeks don’t always look and feel “orderly,” they don’t always match up with how we’d planned them mentally.

But nevertheless, progress is happening. Accept that things can happen in a different order from what you’d imagined. Be open to this. Be patient. It will reduce stress and consternation.

“It takes time for the seeds you plant to bloom. Have the patience not to pluck them too soon.”

Basically this is saying that many people give up too soon. Don’t give up just yet.

Many people might give up on dreams right as they are on the very door of realizing them.

It can be tempting to give up on goals when we don’t see immediate results and things seem to be taking more time than we’d imagined. Be patient.

Each and every day right now you are planting seeds for your future—seeds of greater health, wellness, strength, understanding, and calm. It takes time for these to bloom. What you are doing today not only affects how you feel today, but it affects how you will feel a month from today, and two months from today and a year from today.

Your efforts have a continual and cumulative impact on your future.

Be patient as you continue to plant seeds. They are growing, don’t pluck them before they have the chance to flourish in a big way!

Keep planting your seeds of healing and growth, and have patience as the days of your life and the efforts of your self-care water these seeds and spread sunlight onto them. Beautiful things are growing, day by day. Be hopeful and patient so that this growth can play out.

Until next time,

Michael
